PSIU
Sound Installation
2019
PSIU, the project, was conceived to be outdoors so to be enmeshed into a cityscape. 3 passive speakers were installed on 3 different points and heights of the structure. A sound collage could be heard throughout the day. This would prompt listeners to introspect and change the way the place is typically perceived. This project looked at promoting sound-awareness. Psiu, apart from being a restrictive law for controlling the 'public placidity', is also an exclamation in the Portuguese language used to attract attention. However, depending on the context it can be interpreted as a request of silence, building connections with PSIU guidelines. It’s a timeless cycle that always connects this two discordant points. One word, two opposite meanings: this tricky game intends to call into question our relationship with sound in the city.
