Barqueiro is a 14’40” short-movie. São Paulo, Brazil. One of the most heavily populated cities on the planet. Here, 500 people die every 48 hours. Sérgio, driver for the São Paulo Municipal Funeral Service, has worked the job for twenty years and is on the verge of retirement. He specializes in the pick ups no other drivers feel comfortable accepting, mainly removing children. On a winter night, Sérgio waits alone for his first pick up.

Recent studies say average adults will spend at least half of their lives in front of a screen. The documentary investigates how Brazilian digital influencers are using social media to promote activism on social topics such as racial representation, LGBTQ+ issues, feminism, and politics. They create content for different platforms, raising awareness on taboo topics in a light and deconstructed way, sharing their daily lives and creating a sense of community among their followers. Could our screens be the mirrors of the souls of today's societies?
